![]() Saturday 20th June saw Abingdon Vale Swimming Club (AVSC) hold its 3rd annual Vale Cup - an invitational team competition. Finders Keepers who sponsored the event welcomed Oxford, 4Shires (Chipping Norton) and Swindon to a very noisy, competitive and fun evening. Boys and Girls were classed as U10, U12, U14 and Open age groups. The finale of the event was the final Squadron Relay with a girl and boy representing each category swimming freestyle making a 8x50m relay where the fortunes changed continuously. Overall Results: 1st Swindon Dolphin 142.5 points 2nd Abingdon Vale 120 points 3rd City of Oxford 116.5 points 4th 4Shires 105 points Congratulations to Swindon Dolphin who received the Cup as winners for the 3rd year running, taking 1st place in 23 of the 49 events maintaining their early lead. Abingdon, Oxford and 4Shires alternated their ranking during the evening. Abingdon Vale Swimming Club finished the 3rd weekend of the ASA South East Regional Swimming Championships at Crawley with 13 Medals having made 18 Finals. A total of 14 AVSC swimmers competed over the 3 weekends of swimming with the following 5 medallists:
A further 4 swimmers, Lottie James(12), Daniel McNamara(13), Millie Royal(17) and Luke Wilby(15) all qualified in finals for their events, and Will DeVetta(15), Lauren James(15), Nienke Lijzenga, and Josh Rosh(12) set new PBs or AVSC Club Records in theirs. The standard of swimming in the South East Region is extremely high, with Abingdon competing against many bigger clubs including Oxford, Wycombe, and Milton Keynes. Overall a very successful championship. Many of these swimmers will have increased their rankings for selection in the British Nationals in July. Well done all Regional swimmers.
