National Performance Squad (NP)
Coaches: Amanda & Joseph
This squad is made up of two groups, NP1 & NP2 & which will be led by Head Coach Amanda & Assistant Head Coach Joseph.
NP1:
Swimmers aged 16 and older in the 2024-2025 season who have achieved:
Automatic Qualification (based on Olympic events)
Swimmers who achieve Automatic criteria must have committed fully to the 2023-2024 squad criteria based on attendance, competition plan, holidays, team selection
Consideration Qualification
NP2:
Swimmers aged 15 & older in the 2024-2025 season who have achieved:
Automatic Qualification (based on Olympic events)
Considered Qualification
Swimmers will only be considered for these squad who have committed fully to representing AVSC in team and relay competitions during the season; and attended all end of cycle meets as outlined in the criteria document.
Swimmers will only be offered a place if the coaches feel they are able to cope with the training level and commitment required to be in this squad.

Training Balance and Specificity
The priority quality pool sessions will be Sunday LC, Wednesday PM, Friday PM. Swimmers will be allocated sessions based on individual requirements. Other sessions will be balanced around these key sessions. Wednesday AM and Friday AM; swimmers must train in one of these sessions a week. These are skill sessions for starts, turns, UW skills and finishes, an area where every single swimmer needs to improve.
Equipment
Swimmers will always be in possession of a full complement of equipment and should wear club kit at all times to competitions. This should include:

- Swimmers who qualified for British Championships 2024.
- Swimmers who qualify for a final in an individual Olympic event at the British Summer Nationals 2024 & Home Nations Summer Nationals 2024.
Swimmers who achieve Automatic criteria must have committed fully to the 2023-2024 squad criteria based on attendance, competition plan, holidays, team selection
Consideration Qualification
- Swimmers ranked in the top 24 in their age group, for 50, 100, 200 & 400m events invited to compete at the British Summer Championships 2024.
- Swimmers aged 17 or 18 years ranked in the top 24 in Britain in the qualification window.
- Swimmers ranked in the top 18 in their age group, for 1500 & 800 events.
- Swimmers aged 17 or 18 years ranked in the top 18, for the 1500 & 800 events in Britain in the qualification window.
- Swimmers who competed in the English Winter Nationals in December 2024 in an Olympic event.
- Swimmers who won a medal at the English Summer Nationals August 2024.
- Swimmer who competed at Summer Regionals 2024 and who improved by 3% of more, committed fully to the squad criteria based on attendance, competition plan, holidays & team selection.
NP2:
Swimmers aged 15 & older in the 2024-2025 season who have achieved:
Automatic Qualification (based on Olympic events)
- Swimmers ranked in the top 24 in their age group, invited to compete at the British Summer Swimmers ranked in the top 24 in their age group (14,15,16,17,18, 19 & Over) in the British Summer Qualification window.
- Swimmers ranked in the top 18 in their age group (14,15,16,17,18, 19 & Over) for 800 & 1500 Events in the British Summer Qualification window.
- Swimmers who competed in the British Winter Nationals in December 2023.
- Swimmers who won a medal at the English Summer Nationals August 2024.
- Swimmers who qualified for the National Open Water Championships August 2024.
Considered Qualification
- Swimmers ranked in the top 44 in their age group in Britain in the qualification window during the season for 50,100, 200 & 400m Events.
- Swimmers ranked in the top 36 in their age group in Britain in the qualification window during the season for 800, 1500m Events.
- Swimmers selected for AVSC relay teams competing in the British Summer Championships.
Swimmers will only be considered for these squad who have committed fully to representing AVSC in team and relay competitions during the season; and attended all end of cycle meets as outlined in the criteria document.
Swimmers will only be offered a place if the coaches feel they are able to cope with the training level and commitment required to be in this squad.
Training Commitment
NP1:
- Swimmers 18/+: to attend a minimum of 8 pool sessions per week.
- Swimmers 16/17: to attend a minimum of 7 pool sessions per week, preferably 8.
- Those swimmers age 18/+ who are not committed to training 8 sessions per week will be considered for movement to a squad with fewer sessions. Those swimmers aged 16/17 who are not committed to training 7 sessions per week will be considered for movement to a squad with fewer sessions.
- Swimmers should attend a minimum of two weight sessions per week as advised by the coaches. In addition, they should attend pre-pool land work.
NP2 (will also train with RP1 for some sessions):
- Swimmers 16/+: to attend a minimum of 7 pool sessions per week.
- Swimmers 15 years: to attend a minimum of 6 pool sessions per week, preferably 7.
- Those swimmers age 16/+ who are not committed to training 7 sessions per week will be considered for movement to a squad with fewer sessions. Those swimmers aged 15 who are not committed to training 6 sessions per week will be considered for movement to a squad with fewer sessions.
- Swimmers should attend a minimum of two weight sessions per week as advised by the coaches. In addition, they should attend pre-pool land work.

- Full AVSC kit (t-shirt, hoody) tracksuit bottoms and/or shorts, bag and club swimming hat.
- Training equipment: 2 fluid bottles, snorkel, kick board, pull buoy, ankle band, fins (short blade), finger paddles, chute and tempo trainer.
