Swimmers Info
The AVSC Academy trains at the Abingdon School pool and the White Horse Leisure Centre

Abingdon School Sports Hall is located near the Abingdon town Centre. The car park is off of Farringdon Road and entry to the Sports Hall is via the car park or off Bath Street.
The timetable for training is located on the AVSC website under “Training Timetable”.
Parents should regularly check the training timetable and the Calendar on the AVSC website home page to get up to date information on any changes to the training schedule. On weekends where the club is competing, coaches may be traveling to competition venues and training locations may be consolidated. The squads also have parent Whatsapp groups where parents can ask questions regarding any schedule changes.

Swim Kit
AVSC branded kit can be ordered through the club’s website kit page
Kit is ordered several times a year from the suppliers, but the club does have some items in stock. New swimmers will be provided with an AVSC Academy swim hat when first joining the club and can purchase spares or replacements through the club. The swimmers should also purchase the following items and bring them to training. These items can be purchased from sports shops (they are not supplied by the club).
Once they are established in the club and move up the squads, many swimmers also purchase a large swim bag. Please note however, that many external competitions do not allow these large bags poolside, and they must be left in lockers. These large bags are not needed when a swimmer joins the Academy. Guidelines for parents |
Parents are responsible for bringing their swimmer to the pool for training. For Academy age swimmers, parents should bring their swimmers to the pool building and collect them after the training. Spectators are allowed at the Abingdon sports centre so parents can watch the training, or collect their swimmers from the lobby area. Note that swim venues have their own specific rules that should be respected. No photographic devices, including mobile phones with cameras, should be used in changing rooms. Specifically for Abingdon school, there is a no photography policy in place in the pool area – either during training or competitions.
Parents should be aware that some venues have mixed changing facilities – several external competition venues, and some changing facilities may be shared with members of the public.
Parents/guardians must not enter the changing rooms when children are changing.
No food containing nuts should be brought to training at either venue or to competitions.
All parents should read the club policies – especially those related to the code of conduct for swimmers and parents, and the medical and photography information. It is very important that the club is informed of any medical conditions or allergies. Parents should also inform coaches and/or a Team Manager of any medical conditions, such as allergies, when checking in at external meets.
The club’s welfare policies can be found here: Policies and Documents - Abingdon Vale Swimming Club (AVSC)

Volunteering
Like many swimming clubs, AVSC is a volunteer-led organisation. Our coaches are paid, but the remainder of the people running the club are volunteers. There are three main areas where volunteers are needed: (i) Officials for internal and external meets, (ii) Poolside Volunteers for internal and external meets, such as Team Managers, and (iii) “behind the scenes” Volunteers on the AVSC committee and for organising meet entries. Speak to anyone in the Academy team or email [email protected] when you are established in the club and ready to volunteer.
