About Us
The AVSC Competitive Swim Academy is primarily aimed at swimmers 6-12 years old interested in learning the skills of competitive swimming.
Swimmers in the Academy are expected to continue with their current swimming lessons in addition to the Academy sessions. The Academy manages the crossover between the ASA Learn to Swim Framework, Stages 1-7, the specialised Competitive Swimming Stages, 8, 9, 10, and the world of competitive training and competition at AVSC.

Academy Squads
The AVSC Academy is divided into four squads. London, Rio, Tokyo and Paris. Squad moves will usually take place three times a year but swimmers are continually assessed and invite sessions to higher squads can happen throughout the year.
Please see below our squad criteria for the four Academy squads. Maz Spruce is Lead Coach for the AVSC Academy.

London is our first entry into the AVSC club environment. Swimmers will enter into this group after having an AVSC trial, and will be asked to continue with some swimming lessons if required. They will be expected to swim all sessions available to them if possible. Swimmers will be expected to swim one length of each of the four strokes to Swim England standards, demonstrate a sculling action and perform a somersault. Swimmers will have a good basic understanding of stroke skills, pushing and gliding off the wall and an introduction to using the blocks.
Rio is the second stage of our AVSC Academy. Swimmers can enter into this stage from our Academy London squad or from an AVSC trial. They are expected to swim all sessions available to them if possible. Swimmers will be progressing the skills already taught and will be expected to swim 50m on each stroke in addition to 100FS. They will be taught how to do turns on each stroke and I/M transitions, competitive starts and will continue to build on their stamina. Swimmers will be expected to compete in the AVSC Club Championships as an introduction to competitions
Tokyo is the third stage of the AVSC academy. During this level swimmers are enhancing their skills, streamlining, turns and strokes. They will be expected to swim all sessions available to them if possible. The squad are still developing and building stamina and swimmers should be aiming to swim 100m on each stroke with the correct turns in place in addition building skills and confidence for longer distances. Swimmers will be expected to compete at AVSC Club Championships, Level 4 meets and Level 3 meets (on request from Lead squad coach only).
Paris is the fourth stage of the AVSC academy. During this level swimmers are further enhancing their skills, streamlining, turns and strokes. They will be expected to swim all sessions available to them if possible. The squad are still developing and building stamina and swimmers should be aiming to swim 600 m continuously and maintain body position for each stroke in a 200IM. Swimmers will be expected to compete at AVSC Club Championships, Level 4 meets and Level 3 meets (on request from Lead squad coach only).
