Abingdon Vale Swimming Club ended the 2015 Oxon & North Bucks County Championships on a high, placing second to the City of Oxford Swimming Club in the overall Junior Competition. Head Coach Scott Farnell, in his final Championship before returning to Australia said "the swimmers at AVSC pulled out some amazing personal best swims and Club 2nd place shows the young talent coming through from our Academy and in the U16 squads." AVSC also had 5 swimmers making the podium for either the overall Junior or Open Championships in the second weekend of the event: Niall O'Leary(18) competing in his final County Championships, sealed victory in both the 200m Back and 100m Back Events this weekend as Open Champion. Caitlin Wheatley(17) continued her Butterfly achievements placing 1st in the 200m Fly Open and 2nd in the 100m Fly Open Championship. Ellie Nutt(16) placed 2nd in the 50m Breaststroke and 3rd in the 200m Breaststroke Open Championship. Yasmin Tajalli(13) placed 2nd in the Junior Championship for 50m Free, and Emily Ford(12) placed an amazing 2nd in both the 200m Butterfly and also the 100m Fly Junior Championship events. Bicester Bluefins came 3rd in the Junior Championships, with Aylesbury Maxwell 4th, Wantage White Horses 5th, Witney 6th and Newport Pagnell 7th. ASA South Zonal Swimming Championships, Saturday 31st Jan / Sunday 1st Feb 2015 Abingdon Vale Swimming Club had a successful weekend competing against clubs from the London, South East, and South West Regions at the weekend. Abingdon sent 6 National swimmers to compete in 18 events held at the London Aquatics former Olympic pool in Stratford. Two Golds and Two Silvers and 5 British Championship Qualifications. Niall O'Leary(18) took Silver in the Mens 100m Backstroke, with a 1st and 3rd ranking in the 200m Back and 50m Back respectively. Caitlin Wheatley(17) took Silver in the 200m Fly, and then Gold in the 100m Fly. Emily Ford(12) then swam to the 14&Under Gold in the 50m Fly, posting the fastest ever long course(50m) swim for a British 12 year old with 28.93s in the final. Emily also qualified for the British Champs in April for 200m Backstroke, 100m Fly and 100m Back. Ellie Nutt(16) achieved the finals for both her 15&Over 50m Fly and 50m Breast events, and Yasmin Tajalli(13) qualified for the British Championships in the 14&Under 50m Free and 100m Free events. Nientke Lijzenga(16) placed 15th in the 15&Over 50m Backstroke. Full results HERE.
