Last weekend saw a sizeable contingent of AVSC swimmers at the Leys pool in Oxford for the 4th and 5th of COSC development meets. We had more than 50 swimmers - one of the largest number of entrants that I can remember- each day completing between them more than 300 races and AVSC formed a high proportion of the overall entries.
Although at times it may not have felt like it, these meets are short and relaxed opportunities intended for comparatively inexperienced swimmers to gain race practice and achieve recorded times. A maximum of eight clubs are invited meaning that (under ASA rules) 8 year olds are allowed to enter. We had a sizeable entry from the Academy and entrants from most of our squads, with swimmers from 8-16 yrs competing. The group was united in giving 100% effort to their racing and it was gratifying to see so many of the skills that we work on in training implemented in the races, and translating to pbs. The swimmers were delightful on poolside too and supported each other both In and out of the pool. A massive thank you to the fantastic team managers, Julia James (both days!), Tracie Spokes and Tracey Nash, who marshalled and looked after everybody so well , and to Emma (both days) and Trudi who gave up their weekends to coach the swimmers.
