Saturday night saw Abingdon Vale Swimming Club involved in a thrilling final of the Thames Valley Junior League, coming away as victors after fast competitive swimming, and noisy encouragement from their supporters.

This annual competition is for younger swimmers aged 9-12 and has been where many of AVSC’s older swimmers have honed their competition skills. The B-Final gala was a 2 hour frenzy of relay and individual sprint swims, hosted by Amersham at Chiltern Pools Leisure Centre.

Competing against Maidenhead Marlins A & B teams, Amersham B, Chesham, and Newbury, the AVSC squad of 32 swimmers, aged 12 and under, settled into 3rd place after some technical disqualifications, but then rallied with a final batch of thrilling swims to take 1st place, winning by 11 points.

Coach James Halfhead said "our young swimmers held their nerve and showed real determination to pull back the win, demonstrating their capabilities with good technique and exciting, fast swimming"

With 21 wins from 50 events, AVSC showed their speed & determination. Newbury were a close 2nd (8 points), with Maidenhead A 3rd, Chesham 4th, Amersham B 5th and Maidenhead B in 6th place.

In the A-Final on the same evening, held in Reading, Windsor were the winners,  Amersham A 2nd, Bracknell & Wokingham 3rd, Chalfont Otters 4th, Staines 5th & Reading 6th.
