Academy Lead Coach - Beth Costello

Picture
I have been actively involved with AVSC as a committee member and poolside helper since 2005, and with the academy for the past 6 years.  All three of my children have swum with AVSC; my oldest, Sam, swum and coached from the age of 8 till he went to University but is still involved when he is home for the holidays. My middle child, Kate, swam for 8 years and my youngest, Emma, swims in Performance Squad. She is also quaIified to Level 2 and coaches in the main club as well s as in the academy. I work fulltime as a special needs teaching assistant in a primary school and teach swimming in various local swim schools. Currently I coach all the squads in the club apart from Performance Squad and have coached at some point every swimmer currently at AVSC!

I am a L1&2 teacher and coach. I will coach Rio on a Saturday morning and Monday and Wednesday evenings, and Beijing on Monday and Thursday evenings.

I have 15 years experience coaching children from 7 to 17 with AVSC,  and in varied Learn to swim and school swimming programmes.  I have been involved with the Academy since 2007 and have seen many children go on to success in the Club and beyond.  I have also been on the other side as an AVSC parent.

I have been involved in swimming pretty much all of my life. Initially as a competitive swimmer I then moved to the teaching and coaching side of the sport. I hold Level 1 teaching and Level 2 coaching qualifications. I have coached at AVSC on an almost daily basis for many years and also teach a wide range of swimmers with Abingdon Dolphins Swim Club.
I believe that excellent technique is fundamental to excellence in swimming and will encourage and motivate my swimmers to aim high in order to help them achieve their full potential.

I am a Level 2 ASA qualified swimming teacher and have been teaching in Oxfordshire since 2003.  I am a full time swimming teacher and work from a number of pools in and around Abingdon and Oxford.  As well as working for the Abingdon Vale Swimming Club I also work for Oxford county council and teach at clubs based from Radley College, Marston Ferry and the Vale of White Horse Leisure Centre. I am married to Peter and have three daughters, all of whom are good keen swimmers.
