It great to see so many parents and swimmers gathered together yesterday morning.
I talked about the increase in training time for academy swimmers and the change to "year round" training, emphasing that the more sessions a child can attend the faster progress is likely to be achieved, whilst balancing swimming with "life". I explained that I would like swimmers to become increasingly self sufficient and self reliant, which includes taking responsibility for bringing what they need to training and not expecting parents to do it all - including carrying their bags! I forgot at that point that I had intended to make a plea for ALL kit to be named and not just with initials but full names so that we can attempt to reunite lost kit with the right swimmer! I encouraged all swimmers to start attending appropriate competions to gain experience of the world of competitive swimming and emphasised that all experience is positive since it enables learning. The first such competition is the Oxford Development meet on 23rd October. Please note that the club closing date is 29th September. Events need to be agreed with the squad coach however because of the tight turn around times that might need to be me on this occasion. I made a request that everybody familiaries themselves with the website as it does contain a lot of useful information. Thank you all for staying to join me!

It was great to see so many of the academy swimmers taking part in the 50m club champs held this weekend at Abingdon School. For some this was a first taste of racing and they seemed to enjoy it; enjoyment enhanced by medals in some cases!
Results are available here http://www.avsc.co.uk/entry-forms--results.html There were some disqualfications and I will get further information about those to share with the swimmers and their coaches. I want to emphasise again that this was a learning experience and one that is very valuable for any swimmer. On a different note I have a pink digital watch that was left behind on Friday night - if it was your's please let me know! Well done to all involved! Academy - a good opportunity for Competitive Swimming, within AVSC - Club Champs is here on 9-10th September to blow away the summer cobwebs.
If you want to be entered for any of these 50m events, please email Beth by the Sunday 4th September so that she secures your entry. Details of the Champs are on the main club Entries/Forms page (no need for a password for this one). Dear Academy Swimmers
We wanted to let you know now about some exciting developments to the Academy that will take effect from September 2016. We have been working hard to try to find a way to offer more training opportunities to all of our Academy swimmers. From September training will mirror that of the main AVSC club and so will continue year round, apart from a break in the summer, and for any Bank Holidays or pool closures. The programme will no longer be "term time" only. We are also pleased to offer swimmers in Sydney a longer session on Saturday morning with the additional time being mainly used to focus on key aquatic skills. Athens who already have an hour long session on Saturday morning will also benefit from an additional session of 45 minutes on Thursday evenings at Abingdon School pool from 7.00-7.45 pm. Beijing swimmers have their Monday session confirmed (7.00-7.45 at Radley School pool) as well as the Thursday session at Abingdon School pool. This will now be slightly later to accommodate Athens and so will be from 7.45-8.30 pm Rio swimmers will have their additional Monday night session at Radley School pool confirmed, 7.45-8.30, as well as the Tuesday session at Abingdon School from 6.00-7.00. We want to offer the Academy swimmers more opportunities to gain confidence in competing and so are looking at adding a competition calendar based on level 4 meets and internal competitions. The Academy Coaching team are enthused about these increased opportunities to develop your swimmer skills and hope that you will be too. We would all like to wish you, and your families, an enjoyable summer. This is the place to check for 'dynamic' Academy content.
Any notices, information or results from recent mini-gala's will be posted here. Happy Swimming. |
