![]() Abingdon Vale Swimming Club is delighted to announce the appointment of Amanda Ford as Head Coach of AVSC. Amanda has been a key member of AVSC's coaching team for the past 6 years, and many of our swimmers have flourished under her guidance. She plays a vital role in developing our swimmers' technical skills, delivering land training classes, and introducing other strategies which are at the forefront of the sport to ensure continued improvement. Amanda is a Level 2 coach and Level 3 Personal Trainer with over 14 years' experience. She currently delivers the strength and conditioning training for the England Talent Level 1 Programme, both regionally and nationally. AVSC CoChair, Julia James said "We are thrilled that Amanda has agreed to become our new Head Coach, and are looking forward to working with her during the next exciting phase of AVSC's development". One of Amanda's first priorities as Head Coach will be reviewing the coaching provision across the club, to ensure that the needs of all squads are met; "Our objective is to create long - term development, whether a swimmer wants to participate or become a performance swimmer. The dedicated coaching team will help swimmers to achieve their objectives via skills development, and educate them to understand the vital role that nutrition, land training and sports psychology plays in their swimming progress" With Galas and Regional and National championships looming, AVSC swimmers from 9 to 18+ will be stepping up their training in the coming weeks to 'be the best you can be, be AVSC'. -AVSC Committee

![]() The Oxon & N.Bucks ASA Swimming County Championships concluded after 4 weekends of racing, at the Aylesbury AquaVale competition swimming pool, 13-14th February 2016. Clubs from all over the ONB region met to battle it out for podiums, records and the Junior and Open Championships. Abingdon Vale take on the bigger clubs Oxford, Milton Keynes and Aylesbury Maxwell head to head as well as local rivals Bicester, Wantage and Witney. "Once again, the AVSC team had great success, with the whole team performing to the highest level. We have a record number of age group swimmers achieving regional championship times at the county championships with hopefully more to come over upcoming meets" Amanda Ford & Bruce Rennie, AVSC coaches Between them, AVSC's 37 swimmers carried home 22 gold, 17 silver and 15 bronze medals, and finished 5th in the County Open Championship (a place ahead of local rivals Wantage, who pipped AVSC in the Junior Ranking). An impressive 24 swimmers achieved finalist status (with 99 finals between them), AVSC club records were broken, and the swimmers between them achieved over 200 PBs, but stars Max and Lottie shone most brightly. 13 year old Max "the bullet" Bolcato delivered race winning swims across all four strokes, demonstrating an outstanding all round talent. He finished his 2016 County campaign with 10 gold, 1 silver & 2 bronze medals. 11 year old Lottie James showed similar prowess and all round ability, winning a total of 11 medals, including gold in the 200 IM. ![]() Abingdon Vale Swimming Club had a fantastic evening at the Witney Swimming Club Development Gala on Saturday evening, 23rd January 2016. The AVSC Squad of competitive swimmers aged 12yrs and under, took on the hosts Witney and teams from Oxford, Wantage, Henley and Bicester. They raced in relays and were quickest off the blocks with three 1st and two 2nd places in the first 5 races. Close races followed and Abingdon triumphed on the night which culminated in the finale - the Cannon Relay of 12x25m Freestyle swimming. Results: Abingdon Vale 243 pts City of Oxford 204 pts Witney & District 163.5 pts Wantage White Horses 152 pts Henley Swimming 125 pts Bicester Bluefins 104.5 pts The encouragement and supportive nature of the whole team towards each other was noticeable from all attending. Abingdon Coach Amanda Ford said "I was proud to see our swimmers put into practice the skills worked on in training and for them to gain confidence from their swims". A huge well done to all those younger ones, including from the AVSC Academy, who competed in their first competition and gave it their all. Thanks to hosts Witney for a great evening of racing. ![]() Abingdon Vale Swimming Club headed to Leamington Spa on Saturday night for the final Round 3 of the National Arena Swimming League competition. Swimming against teams from Stratford (hosts), two from Leicester, Hereford and Belper Marlins, the Abingdon squad overcame missing senior swimmers to pull out winning swim after winning swim - a total of 13 in the 50 event gala, to win overall by 19 points. Final Result: Abingdon Vale: 198 Leicester Sharks 179 Leicester Penguins 172 City of Hereford 170 Belper Marlins 156 Stand-out individual wins came from Lottie James(11) (50m Backstroke, 50m Fly), Caitlin Wheatley(18) (100m Fly), Daniel McNamara(13) (100m Backstroke), Sam Cruttenden(11) (50m Breaststroke), Max Bolcato(13) (100m Fly), Yasmin Tajalli(14) (100m Freestyle) & Tappy Ross(13) (100m Freestyle). But it was the team efforts in the Relays that made the difference with every swimmer fighting for every place and several younger swimmers 'swimming up' to compete in older age groups - Cameron Bullock(13), Max Bolcato(13), Oliver Hodgson(14) and Will Devetta(15). The result means Abingdon secured their position in the Premier Division of the competition for 2016, finishing mid-way in the 24-team West Midlands League. ![]() They say silence is golden but there was no chance of that at the Aquae Sulis swimming Grand Prix at the Hengrove Park pool in Bristol last weekend (21/22 Nov), as over 30 swimming clubs competed for medals and Personal Bests (PBs). Abingdon Vale Swimming Club sent 22 swimmers, all of whom excelled and delivered in the fantastic competitive pool facility, but the golden performance was from Felix Sissins-Roffey. In his last competition as a 10 year old, Felix delivered win after win in all his events, accumulating 9 Gold Medals. In the 50m Freestyle, Felix swam in sub30 seconds, confirming his ranking as the 2nd fastest 10year old in Britain this year (a time of 29.79s), and the 6th fastest of all time (British Swimming Rankings). The future looks bright, with Felix also holding the 10&U AVSC records in allthe 12 events he has competed in, some set 30 years ago. The Grand Prix also saw two AVSC swimmers achieve National qualifying times: Yasmin Tajalli (14) qualified with her 50m Freestyle time of 27.20s and Will DeVetta (15) with his 50m Fly time of 27.11s, both setting their own new AVSC Club records in the process.
