TRIALS WITH ABINGDON VALE SWIMMING CLUB

Prospective members should be aware of the following criteria for entry into the first level squad:

Entry to AVSC for novice level swimmers is generally through the Swim Academy. Trials for swimmers from other Clubs or to upper Level squads can be arranged individually. Please email secretary@avsc.co.uk

Swimmers for trials should bring their goggles, a non-fizzy drink in a plastic bottle and a T shirt to keep warm in when not swimming.

If a swimmer is of the required standard, they will be offered a 3 session trial period. This can be terminated at any time by either side. This is subject to there being space in the appropriate squad. If a swimmer is not successful, they may be recommended to improve on a particular aspect and reapply.

Prospective members should be aware of the following criteria for entry into the first level squad:
1) Have successfully completed an AVSC Swim Academy Course
2) Be of a standard to meet the criteria outlined in the National Teaching Plan 'Competitive Development Award, Level 1'.
3) Understand that the Club exists to train swimmers to compete, not for fitness and leisure.

Once accepted as a permanent member, swimmers should be prepared to:
1) Initially, attend 2 sessions a week, building to 3 or 4
2) Demonstrate good lane discipline throughout the session
3) Arrive 5 mins before the start of the session to begin stretching, with all their equipment and their drink at the end of the lane

IT IS A CONDITION OF MEMBERSHIP THAT YOU WILL MAKE YOURSELF AVAILABLE TO SWIM FOR THE CLUB IN GALA'S AS AND WHEN REQUIRED, UNLESS THERE ARE EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.
