REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Coach
Struan Mc Neil
Available pool hours, 12
Aims of squad
The aim of this squad is to continue improving competitive performance and the basic goal is to try to have swimmers qualifying for Regional and possibly National competition. Members of this squad will be the most focused and dedicated swimmers.
In order to belong to this squad, a swimmer must:
1. Show the highest level of commitment: a minimum of 75% attendance completing the majority of sessions. This will remain the same percentage even if more training is introduced (Attendance also includes turning up early enough to loosen off before training.)
2. Consistently have shown willingness to work at the correct intensities to race at a higher level.
3. Show willingness to work hard to make any technical changes required to race smarter/faster.
(Training paces are derived from internationally recognised Training pace tables)
As standards at the club improve these criteria can and will be changed.
Regional Squad Consideration Criteria
1. Commitment Levels - ALL swimmers in the squad and prospective swimmers must show commitment to training by attending on average 80% of ALL pool training available. Swimmers will be expected to attend any land training that is available but it is not part of the criteria.
2. Performance Levels – ALL swimmers but be able to achieve a Regional Accepted time Plus 10%. Swimmers who qualify for 50m events must achieve times in 2 different Strokes. Qualifying times will be calculated using the Current Regional Qualifying times and adding 10% to those times. This will give us separate Qualifying times for Girls and Boys. Entry into the squad
3. Age Groups – Swimmers must be 12 years old or older to be in the Regional Squad. Swimmers younger than 12 must demonstrate outstanding talent as well as the physical and mental maturity to cope with training.
4. Attitude – Swimmers must demonstrate the willingness and desire to train to compete at a higher level.
Please note these criteria are for consideration…not automatic promotion to the Regional Squad. The criteria is designed to be fair and simple. Given it is much more simple than before swimmers will know exactly what they must achieve to be part of the squad.
