Abingdon Vale Swimming Club is a small friendly club constitued in 1993. We are dedicated to seeing swimmers achieve their full potential in Competitive Swimming. There is a dedicated coaching staff and supportive committee and parent body that strive to ensure this. Many of our swimmers compete at the County and Regional level and some at the National level.

We provide coaching on technique, fitness and stamina at sessions ranging from 1-2 hours, several times a week at pools in and around Abingdon (Abingdon School Sports Centre and Radley School Sports Centre). We also have a regular land-training programme. We recommend regular training and will advise a swimmer on the level and hours suitable for them once they have been accepted into the club. Members generally enter the club through an individual assessment (for more experienced swimmers) or through the Abingdon Vale Competitive Swimming Academy and all swimmers are subject to a 3 session trial period.

We encourage participation in competitions for swimmers 9 years or older as soon as we feel that a swimmer is able to cope and will provide access to a wide variety of competitions from novice to National standard. The majority of these will be relatively local, within or just outside the County boundary. Younger swimmers will get the opportunity to compete in in-house club competitions.

The Club is run by our hard-working volunteer Committee which runs the business and social life of the Club. We encourage parents to be involved in this side of things as well as getting involved in the world of competitive swimming. There are many poolside roles for which training can be provided for anyone interested.

Our aim is to produce the best performance in our swimmers by working hard and having fun. If you think you might be interested in coming for a trial, contact secretary@avsc.co.uk

You must be aged 7 or over, be able to swim 100 metres without stress, and demonstrate at least 3 effective strokes.

The Club is a competition squad and its primary purpose is to compete against other clubs, not to provide swimming solely for fitness and leisure.

We are affiliated to the ASA South East Region.
