NEW SWIMMER INFORMATION
AVSC has been running for about 17 years now. The Club is run by volunteers and parents with an interest in swimming who are dedicated to seeing swimmers achieve their potential in the sport.
The purpose of AVSC is to coach swimmers to participate in competition; not swimming purely for leisure or keep fit. Any swimmer expecting to perform well, and reach their full potential should be looking at attending a minimum of 75% of available pool time for their stage of training. Swimming training does demand and develop a high degree of discipline that is useful in all walks of life.
We encourage parents to join in Club activities as much as their offspring. If any parent has an interest or background in the sport and is interested in helping in the coaching process, we would be very pleased to hear from them. The Club will pay course and exam fees for anyone who wishes to take a course in Lifeguarding, Timekeeping or Coaching in order to help the club. If you have any useful or unusual skills to contribute, let us know. You could also consider a term on the Committee. We are always looking for volunteers for much more everyday things such as making tea and setting up the pool, so however little time you have there is always something you can do to help.
On Saturdays at Radley Pool, before a session can begin, the pool needs to be set up with lane ropes, and flags. This is not a difficult task, but many hands can make light work. The setting up and clearing away has to be done in our time, so the quicker it can be done, the more swimming time everyone gets. The only thing you have to do is remove your outdoor shoes, and someone will show you what needs to be done. Please help if you can, particularly if you see one or two coaches struggling on their own.
Sponsorship
If anyone has business connections and might be able to obtain sponsorship, large or small, please let the Committee know.
